Product details

When the bourgeois age only accepted the role of wife, housewife, and mother, they fought for their desire to become artists against heated male sentiments, who disparagingly referred to them as "painting women." Thus, some fearless women managed to receive professional training at the Württemberg Painters' Association in Stuttgart, which allowed the city to develop into an urban center for the work of female artists alongside Munich, Berlin, Hamburg, and Vienna. The book presents the lives and works of the female artists trained in Stuttgart from 1895 to 1914. It highlights both their determination and courage to defy conventions, as well as the city's evolution into an art city from a female perspective.
