For the first time, a book titled "Hanyska" has appeared in Polish literature, in which a German Upper Silesian, born in the post-war period in Ilnau/Jelowa, district of Oppeln, describes the fate of a German family during the end of the war, the front, fleeing from the front, returning to their Upper Silesian homeland, and the struggle against the adversities they faced from the communist authorities. In most books that address this period, the fate of the German Upper Silesians during their flight and their attempts to build a new life is depicted. The author Helena Buchner additionally portrays the time after her family's return from flight to their homeland, which is no longer theirs. Persecution, humiliation, hatred, the loss of inheritance, robbery, murder, famine, and a woman who does everything to protect her home.
