Product details

Lea Lublin, nearly unknown, now discovered. At just twelve years old, Lea Lublin (born 1929 in Poland, died 1999 in Paris) begins her studies at the Academy of Arts in Buenos Aires. In 1968, she exhibits for three weeks at a Paris museum with her eight-month-old son. Two years later, one of her paintings is confiscated in Argentina, and Lublin is sentenced to three months of probation for public indecency. In her exhibition "The Striptease of the Christ Child" at the Parisian gallery Yvon Lambert in 1983, she questions the underlying eroticism in Christian painting. Following in the footsteps of Marcel Duchamp in Buenos Aires, she steals his mailbox in 1990 as evidence for her theory of readymades. These are some key moments in the life and work of the Argentine-French artist Lea Lublin, who has remained largely unknown in Germany until now.
