Product details
The author of the present volume "Life and Teachings of the Buddha," Richard Pischel (January 18, 1849, in Breslau; December 26, 1908, in Madras, India), was a full professor of comparative linguistics and Indology at the University of Halle from 1885 to 1902. In 1908, Richard Pischel accepted an invitation from the University of Calcutta to give a series of lectures on the Middle Indo-Aryan languages, but he passed away during his journey in Madras. The University of Calcutta honored him by purchasing his private library and establishing the Pischel Memorial Hall, which still exists today. He describes northeastern India during the time of the Buddha, the Buddha's position on state and church, his teaching methods, the community, and culture, among other topics. This is a reprint of the original edition, second edition from 1910.
