Guido Hoffmann, born in 1969 and father of three children, receives the shocking diagnosis in 2002 that he suffers from a rare liver disease called PSC. The initial prognosis he receives states that he has only five years to live. Fortunately, the disease largely leaves him alone for the next few years. In 2011, however, the disease and its associated problems escalate: he experiences bile duct blockages in the liver, which increases his risk of liver cancer. Additionally, he suffers from regular fevers, fatigue, vomiting, significant weight loss, and a high risk of liver cancer. There is only one chance and one way out for him: a liver transplant. As paradoxical as it may sound, when this option is presented to Hoffmann, he feels relieved. Finally, he can receive help, and there is hope once again.
