Childhood truly ends where the story of our parents becomes our own, and we can no longer close our eyes to their abysses as well as our own. Maria-Maria travels to Romania to visit her injured father and to care for him, despite his possessive lover, alongside them. In his eyes, she, the daughter, has betrayed the real utopia of the communist society. In turn, she sees in him only the entrenched party rhetorician who posed as a moral authority, demanded sacrifices from others, but led a hypocritical life himself. The new novel by Carmen-Francesca Banciu deals with the death of a supposed patriot for whom homeland, party, and the building of a new society always held the most important place in his life, and the love one hopes to receive from their parents.
