The topic of child welfare endangerment is receiving increasing attention in public discussions and media reporting. The often dramatic individual cases provoke outrage, shock, and lead to a heightened demand for action from public youth services. However, addressing child welfare endangerment requires not only the involvement of public youth welfare agencies but also all institutions that, through their specific tasks and activities, have access to the life domains of children and adolescents. In addition to outlining the legal options available to youth welfare offices, particularly under § 8a SGB VIII, the book also explains the options available to private providers, schools, and medical professionals.
