Ulrich Seeger’s textbook on Palestinian Arabic originated from a series of lectures given by the author at the Chair of Semitic Studies at the University of Heidelberg. The textbook does not represent a specific urban dialect but rather a generalized ideal-type dialect that is composed of characteristic elements from various cities that Seeger collected during his stays and research in Hebron, Jerusalem, Nablus, and especially in Ramallah. The textbook systematically conveys the grammar of urban Palestinian Arabic in 30 lessons. Thus, it is not primarily aimed at practical language acquisition but serves as a linguistically grounded introduction to this dialect. It is intended for students of Semitic Studies and Arabic Studies, as well as for readers who already have knowledge of Modern Standard Arabic or another Arabic dialect.
