German Singing Instruction - Linguistic Part. The author Julius Hey (1832-1909) was a singing teacher and music educator. He was married to Karoline Benfey, a niece of the linguist Theodor Benfey. He was the father of the classical philologist Oskar Hey, the painter Paul Hey, the diplomat Siegfried Hey, the opera singer Ottilie Hey, and the singer and singing teacher Hans Erwin Hey. Hey was the author of the three-part work German Singing Instruction, which was published around the turn of the century and served as a textbook for the vocal training of singers. An additional volume for actors was published under the title The Little Hey. The Art of Language (now The Art of Speaking). This book remains a standard work in voice education to this day.
