Product details

Who knows that the great philosopher Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz provided essential inspirations for the design of a garden? In Hanover, in the famous Baroque garden of Herrenhausen, he drew his ideas about nature and art from garden design. Since no leaf is like another, he recognized in the seemingly infinite variety of forms of the Baroque garden the deeply individual shape of nature and the freedom of the individual as such. Thus, the garden becomes a laboratory for gaining knowledge, and the person moving within it experiences, through sensory perception – one thinks of the shell shapes in plants, architectural sculptures, and water features – always new stimuli for thought. Horst Bredekamp dares to turn the history of garden art upside down. He does not see the idea of freedom as typically represented in the gently curved paths of the landscape garden.
