Product details
Krümelchen was born in the Medina of Marrakech and surpassed his five siblings in the art of begging even as an infant. Rented out to poor women, he provides his family with a flourishing business. However, this talent soon becomes his downfall, as his mother does everything in her power to prevent the profitable baby from growing. Bound to a stroller and physically stunted, he continually finds new ways to present himself as an attraction, evoking wonder, pity, and money from people. When he secretly learns to read and write from a Spanish professor, books open up a new world for him. His perspective on life changes radically. With his first love, he manages to emancipate himself from his mother and begin an independent life. Mahi Binebines' wonderful coming-of-age story gives a voice to the forgotten of this world.
