The author examines, based on sports didactics and the work of didactics from other subjects, the question of what the activation of students through learning tasks in physical education aims to achieve in terms of competency development. In the empirical part of the work, he highlights the contexts in which teachers place their tasks, how the task texts and contexts are perceived by students, and subsequently reconstructs a learning task as a learning environment for competency building.
