How do adolescents become competent readers? What connections exist between reading motivation, behavior, and competence? And how are these three areas of reading influenced by family dynamics, school environments, and peer relationships? These questions are explored in research on reading socialization, and the findings are presented in this volume. It offers a current and systematic overview of the international state of research and examines the topic of reading socialization from two perspectives. The first part includes results from studies on reading motivation, behavior, and competence. The second part focuses on empirically proven social influences from familial, educational, and peer variables on reading enjoyment, frequency, and comprehension.
