Lili is a story that shows us that every person is unique. It encourages us to believe that we all have something special: a gift, a talent, original ideas... in other words, we can all create something unique. The story of Lili teaches us two important lessons: First, despite our differences, we can all contribute to the whole and help each other. And second, every child should be able to live freely as they are. Only then will they find their own place in a society that respects differences. With Lili as her debut work, author Wen Dee Tan won 3rd place in the Macmillan Prize in 2013.
