After Switzerland
German, DanieldeRoulet, 2009Product details
It was rarely entirely simple with home. Robert Walser, for example, withdrew into himself, Harald Szeeman coped with irony, and Ferdinand Hodler stubbornly repeated: "I paint a planetary landscape." From the homesick London chocolate baron from Ticino, Carlo Gatti (1817-1878), to Noëlle Revaz and Peter Weber (both born in 1968), Daniel de Roulet writes and illustrates in a very personal way the relationships they had or have with Switzerland. Sometimes in short, concise biographies, sometimes with a detailed look at a single episode, he attempts to explore the metamorphoses that love for Switzerland has undergone over the last two hundred years. These are primarily artist portraits, as Daniel de Roulet states, because art is often a seismograph of what is to come. Despite all dissent, it is therefore advisable to pay attention to it when it comes to the future.
