The self-understanding of a society, a culture arises from what is remembered and told. However, what is crucial is: What is heard in the telling. The storytelling project "Telling Liechtenstein" provides insight into the realities of life that do not appear in newspapers, speeches, statistics, or surveys; it showcases hopes, feelings, wishes, disappointments, family stories, and personal experiences. Each of the five volumes is dedicated to a specific storytelling situation. Volume 1 focuses on "democratic moments," the demonstration for women's suffrage on March 5, 1971, and the EEA vote on October 28, 1992. From conversations with witnesses, the authors distill authentic narratives close to spoken reality. Photographs from archives and private collections complement the oral accounts. The appendix includes documents and brief lexical reports on the respective events.
