Product details
Tens of thousands of Tibetans have fled their homeland since the popular uprising against the Chinese occupying power in 1959. They have endured the hardships and dangers of crossing the Himalayas to find refuge in India and other countries. On April 1, 1995, a father and his six-year-old daughter also leave Lhasa, writing another chapter in the sad history of the Tibetan people's flight. Photographer Manuel Bauer has experienced and documented this life-threatening journey to freedom despite obstacles and controls. For the first time, the photographs are now published in book form. For "Escape from Tibet," Manuel Bauer has compiled a comprehensive selection from his archive. The images tell the dramatic story of the father and his little daughter and serve as a metaphor for the journey of an entire people that has suffered for fifty years.
