In her novel, Bessa Myftiu explores the places of her own childhood. The girl grows up in a neighborhood of Tirana, living with her family, neighbors, and friends, while observing her surroundings. Her everyday life is shaped by daily experiences and small love stories, as well as by the fate of her father, who falls out of favor with Enver Hoxha's regime, is institutionalized, receives a writing ban, and later earns a living as a kiosk vendor. The memories told from a girl's perspective provide a poetic, humorous, and subtle insight into a country marked by totalitarianism and patriarchy. The novel is a wonderful, finely woven tapestry of stories from a world that continually expands for the young girl.
