In 1997/98, Jörg Steiner lived for a year in the Stadtschreiberhäuschen of Bergen-Enkheim, a district of Frankfurt. There, he met Hanne Kulessa, and from their professional relationship, a friendship developed that lasted until Jörg Steiner's death. Over the course of fifteen years, a correspondence emerged that perhaps contains some of the most beautiful stories of the writer Jörg Steiner. These stories are naturally intertwined with personal allusions, reactions, and responses, but foremost is the act of storytelling itself. Steiner often sent his messages on cards—letter cards and postcards—resulting over the years in a collection of cards that formed a small universe of Jörg Steiner stories and, incidentally, a glimpse into Steiner's own poetics.
