Outwardly, Karlheinz Weinberger led an unremarkable life. His youth was quiet, albeit quite modest. He worked as a carpet and furniture salesman. At the age of 34, he took a job as a warehouse worker at Siemens, where he remained until his retirement. He lived his entire life in the same house in Zurich's District 4. Even as a sixteen-year-old, he discovered the medium of photography. In his free time, he photographed teenagers, rockers, bikers, and tattooed individuals, capturing the underside of the bourgeois world in Switzerland over more than sixty years of his photographic work. But his oeuvre goes beyond that: it also includes sports photography, images of folk culture, and homoerotic pictures. Weinberger's photographic work reflects his life, his homosexuality, and his fascination with virile worlds. Patrik Schedler was Karlheinz Weinberger's caretaker.
