The poems of Anna Maria Bacher, who hails from the Pomattertal / Val Formazza in Italy, are now highly regarded in many circles, not least due to the musical settings by Peter Roth, Heinz Holliger, Martin Derungs, and Thüring Bräm. Anna Maria Bacher writes quiet, often melancholic poems—clear and austere, sometimes noisy and unsentimental—about the inner and outer nature, feelings, and encounters in her valley. She writes in "Titsch," a Walser dialect with a rugged Alemannic charm that is slowly disappearing in the Italian Alpine valleys, as well as in Italian. Anna Maria Bacher is a passionate ambassador of Walser culture. The sixty poems collected in this volume are mostly unpublished, along with about a dozen from the out-of-print volume "Gägäsätz - Gegensätze - Contrasti.".
