Emil Zopfi, born in 1943, studied electrical engineering after completing an apprenticeship and worked as a computer specialist and adult educator in computer science and language. He lives as a freelance writer, journalist, and adult educator in Obstalden and is a passionate sport climber. He has received several awards for his works, including from the City and Canton of Zurich, the Landis & Gyr Cultural Foundation, the Swiss Schiller Foundation, the Cultural Prize of the Swiss Alpine Club in 1993, and the Glarner Cultural Prize in 2001.
