For the first time, this book publishes the entire corpus of "Mountain Children." The basis for this was contact copies of the negatives, arranged in dozens on a sheet, following the original inventory of Emil Brunner. What did Brunner intend with this large-scale photographic research? We no longer know for sure today. "Nua ein els oz?" - "What has become of them?" he asked in a 1971 call published in the Gasetta Romontscha and again in 1990 in the Bündner Tagblatt, where he published a small number of the images each time. However, even in these articles, the motivation behind Brunner's project remains enigmatic. Thus, a unique collection of children's portraits from Trun, Breil/Brigels, Sedrun, Rabius, Sumvitg-Cumpadials, Rueras, Segnas, Vals, Uors-Surcasti, Lumbrein, Vrin, and Vella was created in the years 1943/44, notable for its scope and documentary value.
