Since the turn of the millennium, analog press photography has become obsolete. Until then, a vast and diverse treasure of images had been collected by archives, libraries, and museums in Switzerland. The photographs in these archives are much harder to access than today's digital databases, but the press photo archives contain important sources for Swiss history. "Swiss Press Photography" provides an overview for the first time of the situation of existing press photo archives in Switzerland. It presents and discusses central themes, questions, approaches, and potentials from the perspective of experienced professionals, such as new dimensions in the history of photography through the lens of mass image documentation, as well as the specific historical contexts and production processes of the image collections.
