Product details
The coup of September 6, 1839, has enriched the world with a word. Clash of people, gathering, small popular uprising, explains Grimm's Dictionary from 1889. The word "Putsch" originates from the city of Zurich, where a sudden temporary downpour is called a "Putsch." The envious neighboring cities refer to any silly emotional outburst, enthusiasm, anger, whim, or trend of the Zurich residents as a "Zürichputsch," thus the name remained for all such movements. On that September 6, 1839, several thousand religious conservatives from the Zurich countryside storm the city, leading to a battle, and the last shot hits government councilor Johannes Hegetschweiler, who brings the order to surrender. Zurich's liberal-radical government falls, and the conservatives come to power for a few years. The novel tells of life and death.
