Product details
The life and work of Gustave Roud (1897-1978) are not particularly spectacular: he lived his entire life on the family farm in Carrouge (Canton Vaud), where he captured his melancholic wanderings through the landscape of Haut Jorat in poetically dense, musical prose, reflecting the changing seasons. Roud was an important representative of introspective poetry and also distinguished himself as a translator of German poets (Novalis, Trakl, Hölderlin, Rilke), who had a significant influence on him. Today, the work of this poet, revered by his contemporaries, has gained wide recognition beyond the borders of Western Switzerland. His photographic work is also now acknowledged, and Roud is considered one of the most important European writers and photographers during the years between the World Wars.
