Product details

Provocation is welcome here. Old and new, loud colors and half-timbered facades collide with full force. There is no doubt: Thomas Rebel showcases the inner punk within him through his XXL art project. The artist consciously embraces mockers, doubters, and skeptics. Rebel is not concerned with the decorative; he aims for dialogue, dispute, and renewal. This is exactly what I immediately appreciated about this literally largest exhibition ever held in Bretten. Pretty light concepts and nice landscape pictures would have been too little and too interchangeable for our grand 1250th anniversary. Rebel uses our city as a gallery for his gigantic, distorted, digitally exaggerated motifs. The motifs often depict the city itself, but also themes from the Reformation—like the giant Martin Luther, who smiles brightly and colorfully at visitors approaching from Pforzheim. I am sure: This exhibition will illuminate the city with its expressive motifs and colors—and with it, the eyes of the people of Bretten and its visitors. Thomas Rebel demonstrates through his dialogical and disputatious renewal that Bretten can offer more than just preserving traditions. Bretten is the city where Peter and Paul coexist with high-tech. Bretten is both historical and modern. Who better than Thomas Rebel, a punk and Peter-and-Paul activist, author of the Bretten picture book, and pioneer of digital pixel art, could present this to us so brilliantly and impressively?.
