The mysterious institution in the Third Reich has repeatedly sparked discussions and speculations. With the rise of racial ideology and its incorporation into the National Socialist worldview, the foundation for the idea of Lebensborn was laid. This book examines, on one hand, the pretexts, strategies, and especially the ideologies that led to the founding of the SS organization. The Lebensborn did not arise solely within the framework of legislation but must also be viewed in the context of the executive-driven population policy. On the other hand, the instrument of National Socialist racial policy is historically analyzed to clarify the intentions of the organization. Goals, tasks, and areas of action are presented in detail. Using the case study of the children's home Sonnenwiese in Kohren-Sahlis, the absurd activities of Lebensborn are explicitly illustrated.
