Language plays an important role in all areas of life and for every age group. It enables people to communicate their needs, desires, and feelings to others. This is crucial for participation and quality of life. Nevertheless, around 63,000 people in Austria currently live with limited spoken language. A fundamental distinction is made between specific and embedded language disorders. This work focuses on the latter, which is a developmental language disorder caused by a primary illness or disorder, in this case, a genetic syndrome (Fragile X Syndrome). Supported Communication (SC) aims to assist individuals with absent or limited spoken language through alternative or supplementary communication methods to enable their participation in society.
