Product details

The political thinkers Judith Butler, Antonio Negri, and Slavoj Zizek are regarded as the most prominent leftist philosophers of today. Butler shocked and stirred the feminist movement with her book "Gender Trouble" (1990/1) and is considered a leading figure of the queer movement. Negri's book "Empire" (2000/1) was regarded for several years as "the Bible of the anti-globalization movement." Zizek has been seen as the enfant terrible of the radical left at least since "In Defense of Lost Causes" (2008/9). Wherever they appear, there are crowded meeting rooms, TV crews, and photographers. Their fame resembles that of rock stars. However, there is a significant problem for leftist activists: the fame of Butler, Negri, or Zizek does not make their writings easier to understand. In fact, many interested readers have had to give up after just a few pages. The three use jargon and a style that is difficult for outsiders to access. They have often been accused of thinking only abstractly, without referring to concrete situations or making political proposals. For many, their works remain a closed book. This new book is specifically for those individuals. "Leftist Philosophy Today" contains three introductory texts on the lives and works of Butler, Negri, and Zizek—all written by undisputed experts in these subjects. For activists and interested readers who want to familiarize themselves with the thoughts and works of Butler, Negri, and Zizek, this book is the right starting point.
