Fanny Lewald (1811 - 1889) is a pioneer of women's emancipation. She advocates for women's unrestricted right to education and professional work and opposes the forced marriage of young women. She is in contact with prominent women of her time, such as Rahel Varnhagen and Bettina von Arnim. Under her publisher Heinrich Brockhaus, she successfully publishes her first novels, achieving financial independence. As a Jewish woman who converted to Christianity, she frequently addresses the discrimination against Jews in her writings, including in the story "Clementine." This volume is an unaltered reprint of the original edition revised by the author in 1872.
