Her memoirs, rich in emotion and facts, are an ode to her profession and the natural world. Hope Jahren is an award-winning scientist who has been conducting independent research in paleobiology since 1996, after completing her PhD at the University of California, Berkeley. She initially began teaching and researching at the Georgia Institute of Technology and then at Johns Hopkins University. She is the recipient of three Fulbright scholarships and one of four scientists, as well as the only woman, to have received both Young Investigator Medals in the field of Earth sciences. From 2008 to 2016, she was a tenured professor at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu, where she established the Isotope Geobiology Laboratories with support from the National Science Foundation, the Department of Energy, and the National Institutes of Health.
