In recent years, there has been a significant boom in the establishment of infrastructure facilities for civic engagement. This includes volunteer agencies, senior citizen offices, self-help contact points, and community foundations, as well as neighborhood offices, multi-generational houses, local family alliances, and administrative support or contact points. This volume examines the advantages and disadvantages that the diversity of these facilities brings at the local level. Which contact points, offices, and agencies are still relevant today? How do the services complement each other, where do they overlap, and where do they compete? The answers to these questions form the basis for a discussion about the future development of engagement promotion at the local level.
