The San people in Botswana seem to be survivors from a time when the hunter-gatherers of southern Africa claimed vast areas of land for themselves. However, the current legal and political situation of the indigenous population is completely different: they are now landless displaced persons. Nevertheless, the San are coming together in national and supranational self-help organizations to leverage international indigenous legal developments in their struggle for self-determination. Manuela Zips-Mairitsch exemplifies this global justice movement in the legal dispute over land rights in the Kalahari.
