While Catherine Valle-Didier, as a married woman, tended towards discretion, her good friend Marise Lejeand, who no longer had a husband, led a rather open life. The two had not the slightest resemblance, perhaps that was why they were so close. Each was constantly amazed by the other, while at the same time feeling like accomplices, although in what matter remained unclear. When Catherine and Marise meet the attractive Peter von L., they suddenly become rivals. Both are convinced that they can comfort the unhappy lover over his sorrow. After all, Peter's loyalty is to a woman who will remain forever out of reach. But then Catherine's young daughter also takes a liking to the much-desired man.
