Product details
The demographic development in Germany is not only characterized by issues of aging, associated with skyrocketing care costs, but our society has also become less and older, and has long since become more diverse. This has rarely been considered together. Therefore, the scientific center CeSSt Centre of Research for Society and Sustainability at the University of Fulda dedicated a conference to this topic in 2013, the contributions and discussion results of which are compiled in this volume. Several dimensions of social sustainability were examined, which play a special role in interdisciplinary sustainability research: alongside questions of generational justice and social equity, aspects of participation and involvement are particularly significant. The conference was initially prompted by the results of the research project AMIQUS Older Migrants in the Neighborhood: Supporting and Initiating Self-Organization and Self-Help Networks, funded by the BMBF, which was implemented from 2009 to 2012 in Wiesbaden, Fulda, and Munich. For this discussion, additional practical research projects were presented, which aimed to develop social innovations for improved quality of life in old age and examined the living conditions of older people in the city from a socio-spatial and participatory perspective.
