In the work of the Basel office Luca Selva Architekten, the single-family house plays an important role: as a means to explore spatial, typological, design, and phenomenological questions. Often, themes are examined and implemented here for the first time, which are then taken up and further developed in subsequent projects of various kinds. Since the founding of the office in 1991, a number of exciting houses of different types have been created, including semi-detached houses, a house for an art collector, a residential house with a studio, and a multi-generational house. These buildings are now presented side by side for the first time in a comparative manner and in detail. The main part of the book includes a comprehensive documentation of plans and images, as well as descriptions of the individual houses. Additionally, the architects write about the single-family house as a challenge.
