Ludwigsburg Residential Palace
German, Michael Wenger, 2011Product details
The residence castle of the Württemberg Duke Eberhard Ludwig is one of the most impressive Baroque castles in Europe. The guide explains the individual components of the castle complex, its construction history, and the phases of use by the Württemberg court. Initially planned as a hunting lodge in 1704, a diverse complex was created over three decades, the exterior of which has not been altered by subsequent dukes, allowing the castle to present itself today as a cohesive Baroque residence. However, the dukes Carl Eugen and Friedrich, the later king of Württemberg, had numerous rooms redesigned inside, so today the magnificent representative rooms and cabinets feature both Baroque and Neoclassical as well as Empire decorations. Since 2004, large parts of the castle have been used as a museum and are accessible to the public.
