Product details

Ludwigshafen am Rhein has a relatively young history. Founded in 1853, the city experienced rapid growth with the establishment of BASF, becoming the world's largest chemical site. Despite the heavy destruction during World War II, the people of Ludwigshafen managed to transform their city into a vibrant, livable metropolis within 30 years. Dr. Klaus J. Becker, deputy head of the Ludwigshafen city archive, and Bernhard Kukatzki, a renowned author of local historical picture books, have compiled over 200 mostly unpublished photos for this book, covering the period from the end of the war in 1945 to the oil crisis in the mid-1970s. Predominantly sourced from the city archive, these images depict the challenging new beginnings after the war under American and French occupation, as well as the economic miracle with its profound changes.
