The large series revolves around three exiles during World War II. Three best friends - each living in Nazi Germany, each in great danger. An unforgivable mistake destroys their friendship. Now, about 85 years later, young American June learns that her late grandmother Luise immigrated from Germany to the USA in 1936. Additionally, she inherits a restaurant in Manhattan, of which she only owns one-third. The other two shares of the restaurant are to be returned to the long-lost friends of her grandmother, or their heirs.
