Product details
Scientific contributions focus on a number of significant orangery and greenhouse structures in Austria, Hungary, and the Czech Republic, which hold great importance both within the context of European architectural and garden history and in relation to the history of cultivated plants. The range of orangery buildings vividly documented in text and images spans from simple winter houses of the 16th century in Prague and Vienna to innovative greenhouses of noble families such as the Harrachs in 18th-century Vienna, and includes the diverse architectural solutions of the 19th century in Hungary and Austria. New research findings on the history of citrus cultivation in the Munich Residence, as well as on the garden correspondence of the related Duke Christoph of Württemberg, enrich the volume, along with a contribution about the annual Vienna Citrus Days and an essay on the horticultural practice of grafting citrus plants. A novelty in this series is the inclusion of recipes for citrus dishes from the top Austrian gastronomy.
