In the fall of 1993, the quiet town of Harting Farms is shaken by the disappearance of several children. At first, the residents think they have simply run away, until the first body of a girl is found in the large, eerie December Park. The newspapers refer to the kidnapper as the Piper, like the Pied Piper in the Brothers Grimm's tale, because he has come to lure the children away. However, in the school hallways, the children whisper much darker names. Angelo Mazzone and his friends discover a connection to the dead girl and set out to track down the murderer. The five teenagers vow to put an end to the Piper's reign of terror. But what begins as a brave promise turns out to be not only an odyssey into the darkness of their hometown and its residents but also a journey of self-discovery.
