The title of the book could not be more factual; it concerns the coordinates of Mauthausen. Marko Zink focuses on irritation—his photographs compel viewers to look closely. Through photographic means, he makes a dual disappearance visible: the erasure of people and the obliteration of memory. The art form chosen by Zink is analog photography. He processes his films before exposing them, cooking or punching them, treating them with chlorine or ink death. With this delicate film material, he photographs selected locations inside and outside the former concentration camp Mauthausen. Sometimes, Zink's photographic works appear like historical finds, captured quickly and secretly, faded by the sun, half-destroyed by the ravages of time. At times, the photos seem to convey something monstrous through their damages on a different level. And sometimes, something that seemingly can no longer be seen seems to become visible on them. The book includes both the series of works and documentation of the exhibitions. The authors contribute significantly to the various perspectives of the work series with their texts, providing historical, educational, and socio-political contexts. Since April 2019, the exhibition has been shown at the Mauthausen Memorial. Contributions are made by Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein, Andrea B. Braidt, Wolfgang Huber Lang, Thomas Licek, Gudrun Blohberger, Bertrand Perz, Christian Dürr, Felicitas Heimann-Jelinek, Marija Nujic, and Barbara Glück.
