Following the initial study "Coolout in Nursing," this volume presents new research on the professional situation of nursing educators and practice supervisors. They, like nursing staff and trainees, face the irreconcilable contradiction between patient orientation and economic pressures. The metaphor of "bourgeois coldness" is used to explain how they can endure this contradiction in their daily work while simultaneously contributing to the stabilization of a practice that is explicitly normatively unacceptable: they learn to become emotionally detached. The results of the new studies are discussed in relation to selected instructional or didactic concepts. From the conclusions, the author derives suggestions for a critical nursing pedagogy.
