After a lengthy discussion lasting several decades, the German Bundestag passed the so-called Prevention Act on June 18, 2015, which aims to strengthen health promotion and prevention. It officially came into effect at the beginning of 2016. For the first time, the law takes into account health promotion in living environments (setting approach) and medical prevention recommendations. New features include health goals and framework agreements at both federal and state levels, prevention conferences, and prevention reports. This handbook provides a detailed insight that is essential for the further formal and practical development of health promotion in Germany: the legal articles and all new formulations are clearly presented and compared with previous versions. It also includes legal justifications, statements, and responses.
