This book is now considered a standard work, even in all nursing schools. To this day, it is the only one that provides such a compact and comprehensive overview of nursing during the National Socialist era. Through summarizing presentations and eyewitness accounts, the work offers insights into nursing education in the "Third Reich" and care during World War II. The book extensively addresses the complicity and resistance of nursing staff in the patient murders in psychiatry. The new edition has been expanded with current research findings from nursing and historical sciences: including contributions on institutionalized elder care and Jewish nursing during the National Socialism, as well as analyses of the work of nurses in concentration camps. Additionally, the role of midwives before and after 1945 is documented.
