Karl-Heinz Pantke, born in 1955, suffered a severe stroke with locked-in syndrome in 1995. In 2000, he co-founded the association LIS e. V., which organizes survivors of locked-in syndrome. Since 2008, he has held a teaching position in supported communication at the Catholic University of Applied Sciences in Berlin. Gudrun Mrosack, treasurer of LIS e. V., works in a leadership position for a large hospital company. Christine Kühn, a founding member and secretary of LIS e. V., works as a freelance artist and lecturer. Gerhard Scharbert, a former research associate of LIS e. V., now works at the Center for Literary and Cultural Research in Berlin. The association LIS e. V., founded in 2000, brings together survivors of locked-in syndrome from all over Europe. The association runs a pilot project for rehabilitation at a Berlin clinic. An information center collects patient reports, film documents, and literature on locked-in syndrome.
