Product details

Frederic Henry is an American lieutenant serving in the medical corps of the Italian army during World War I. While stationed in northern Italy, he falls in love with Catherine Barkley, an English nurse. Their relationship is an intense, tender, and passionate love affair overshadowed by the war. Ernest Hemingway does not shy away from denouncing the horrors of combat, yet he powerfully depicts the courage displayed by so many people. In writing "A Farewell to Arms," Hemingway drew inspiration from his own experiences as a Red Cross medic. The novel, first published in 1929, made his name known and remains one of his best works. This impressive edition includes an afterword by Ned Halley. The Macmillan Collector's Library is a series of beautiful gift editions of beloved classics aimed at book lovers. The books in the Macmillan Collector's Library are meant to be loved and cherished.
