As a highly polarizing phenomenon, anti-Muslim racism manifests in politics, the media, societal discourse, and research. Since the 1990s, and even more so after September 11, 2001, issues related to integration, migration, and security policy have been associated with Muslims and Islam. In debates surrounding headscarves, mosques, and deficits in democracy, old and new racist stereotypes and arguments have become commonplace, while the anti-racist movement appears to be paralyzed. This INTRO aims to theoretically situate anti-Muslim racism and provide an emancipatory basis for discussion in anti-racist practice.
