Product details

The Voices of Marrakech is the book through which Canetti becomes something like a familiar friend to the reader, and in which a kind of joy in all things human shines through the descriptions of the misery of an oriental metropolis at the edge of human existence, wrote François Bondy. He describes his first encounter with camels; Canetti wanders through the narrow streets of the city; in the Mellah, the Jewish quarter of Marrakech, he observes the silk sellers, discovering restless, uneasy merchants who carry few goods and offer tiny items for sale. In this book, it is Anne Bennent who brings Canetti's language back to the oral tradition, recounting these memories, sketches, and snapshots. Together with the music composed by Otto Lechner for this recording, a grand soundscape of this famous travel report comes to life.
